Henrico police have a warning for residents tonight. Officers are six-months into an investigation surrounding two places in Glen Allen. They say a man is smashing windows at the Crump Manor nursing home and going after credit cards, which he then uses.

The thefts are also happening at Echo Lake Park.

The smash and grab jobs began in June, continuing through the new year...giving park-goers something to think about while the weather is unseasonably warm. “People are out here at night and having a nice day, visiting with the ducks, and the playground over there. It's 70 degrees, last thing I'd be thinking about is someone breaking into my car,” said Kenda Tufford.

Henrico police say the man who's doing this is using the credit cards right after stealing them. He has shoulder length blond hair, and tattoos on his right arm. He drives an early model white Buick or Oldsmobile (watch the video for pictures). Call 501-5000 if you can help police find him.

To Chesterfield, where four cars were targeted in the Salisbury area. They were parked at Kings Farm Drive, Cotesworth Way. and Elmstead Road. All four cars were unlocked. Burglars also kicked in the door to a home at Old Buckingham Apartments, and pried open a door to the Windy Hill Sports Complex on Midlothian Turnpike.

     1,235.

That's the total number of cars that were reported stolen in Richmond last year. The Jahnke Road area comes in with the most, at 53 reported thefts, followed by the Midlothian Business Corridor (48) and The Fan (43). Jeff Davis (37), Northrup (34), Carver (33), and Ginter Park (32) round out the list with more than thirty car thefts per neighborhood.

See Andy Jenks's blog (click on “Bloggers” at the top of the page) to find out which neighborhoods had the fewest car thefts in 2007.
