Chesterfield police are tracking an unusual spike in burglaries. They're trying to catch whoever's responsible for several break-ins in the Woodlake community. The most recent incidents happened in Fiddlers Ridge, and Standing Oak, where neighbors say it's a problem that's been going on for two months.
Last Wednesday, around 8:00pm, a burglar sliced a sun-room screen and gained entry to a home.
Neighbor Kerry Clendenon said, “The disturbing thing is they've been getting more intrusive into people's homes.”
Clendenon is a victim as well, having had a stereo face plate stolen from his car. Another neighbor had a laptop computer stolen from a car. Others have lost food or beer kept inside the garage. The neighborhood rep. is warning others not to invite more trouble.
“I try to remind people to please leave your lights on, install motion lights, lock your cars, take your valuables inside, “ said Gail Fenske.
Meantime, in Henrico, police responded to several cases of vandalism over the weekend. Homes were damaged on Willow Ridge Place and Brightway Court. Someone also broke into a home on Hunter Green Court and stole more than $200 worth of goods.
In Richmond, police took nine reports of robberies over the weekend, many of them in the areas around Downtown or the East End. Women were robbed almost as many times as men. In all of these cases, the victims did not know the suspects. Police say that if you're suddenly the victim of a robbery, be sure to cooperate, rather than provoke the robber, then call the authorities.
